DISCOVER ALL THE DINOSAURS
Tyrannosaurus (length 10 m, height 5 m)
It was one of the largest carnivores, and its terrifying appearance rightly makes it the king of dinosaurs. The main weapons of the Tyrannosaurus were its mighty jaws, with which it could rip off 100 kilograms of meat in a single bite. He is the most popular dinosaur, as there are movies, cartoons, books and toys about it.
Deinonychus (length 3 m, height 1.7 m)
Velociraptor joined the cast of "Jurassic Park" simply because among the Deinonychosauria it was the one with the catchiest name, but actually Deinonychus, a similar form twice as large, was used, perfect for representing a threat to humans with its fearsome claws.
Tarchia (length 4 m, height 1.5 m)
The Ankylosauridae are also called "armored dinosaurs." In fact, the armor is their most distinctive feature, consisting of a mosaic of bony plates and spines arranged in multiple rows throughout the body and a bony club at the end of the tail. These herbivores have become famous thanks to the recent Camp Cretaceous animated series.
Neovenator (length 7 m, height 3 m)
Neovenator is part of the Allosauroidea, which perfectly embody the prototype of the carnivorous dinosaur, with sharp teeth and clawed arms. Although smaller than tyrannosaurs, allosauroids are very present in pop culture and in the past have even been featured in stop-motion films such as "the valley of Gwangi."
Pachyrhinosaurus (length 6 m, height 2.5 m)
The most distinctive and spectacular feature of these dinosaurs was the huge head equipped with a parrot-like beak, a bony collar that protruded backward toward the neck and a large rugged protuberance adorning the nasal bones. Pachyrhinosaurs became famous through their starring role in the movie "Walking with Dinosaurs."
Tito (length 6 m, height 1.7 m)
The bones found in the Prenestini Mountains (Rome) are insufficient for paleontologists to coin a new species, but giving enough information to make it clear that this dinosaur nicknamed "Tito" was a baby sauropod, just like Piedino from "The Land Before Time"
Dracorex (length 2.7 m, height 1 m)
According to the paleontologists who first studied it, Dracorex looked so incredible that it called to mind a fantastic creature. For this reason they wanted to dedicate its name to the magic school of the famous Harry Potter: the species is in fact called Dracorex hogwartsia, which means "king of the Hogwarts dragons."
Titanoboa (length 10 m but it is curled up so it occupies 4x2.5 m)
Titanoboa is the largest fossil snake ever found and belongs to the Boidae group, the so-called nonvenomous "constrictors" that today also include the boa and anaconda. Its size makes it a real-life version of the many snakes seen in the movies, including the giant anaconda from the 1990s adventure horror film of the same name.
Styracosaurus (length 4 m, height 1.5 m)
Second in fame only to Triceratops, this herbivorous dinosaur with a long horn on its snout and six large spines adorning its head has been portrayed by hosts of illustrators impressed by its magnificence. It can also be found in several movies of the last century and in recent Disney animation movies.
Parasaurolophus (length 8 m, height 3 m)
The long hollow crest that adorned the head was connected to the nasal passages, and the passage of air within it generated loud calls, functioning as a sounding board. If the cries of many movie dinosaurs are often figments of the imagination, on the other hand those of the parasaurolophus are scientifically correct!
Protoceratops (length 1.5 m, height 0.7 m)
Many legendary creatures were imagined through the chance discovery of fossil remains, when paleontology did not yet exist and the true significance of the finds was unknown. Such is the case with the myth of the griffon vulture, linked to sightings of fossilized protoceratops skeletons that occurred before 600 B.C. in the sands of the Gobi Desert.
Saltriovenator (length 8 m, height 2.5 m)
Saltriovenator was one of the first carnivorous dinosaurs to reach large size, a fact that placed it at the top of the food chains of the time. Discovered in Lombardy, it has made its way into popular culture thanks to the life-size reconstruction that is now the centerpiece of Milan's Museum of Natural History.
